What is HypnoBirthing Anyway?

When you see or hear the word HypnoBirthing, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
Are you picturing a man leaning over you swinging a watch on a chain?
If you are, you’re not alone. HypnoBirthing is a term that often needs to be explained and is officially described as follows:
„HypnoBirthing is as much as philosophy as it is a set of tools and techniques. It is a rewarding, relaxing, stress-free method of birthing that is based on the belief that all babies should come into the world in an atmosphere of gentility, calm and joy.
When a mother is properly prepared for birthing physically, mentally and spiritually, she can experience birthing her baby in an easier, more comfortable and some times even pain-free manner. Through a well thought out program of deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, and education, HypnoBirthing returns to a woman the art of birthing in a way that allows her to summon her natural birthing instincts and to birth her baby in safety and with ease. HypnoBirthing is based on the belief that severe discomfort does not need to be a natural accompaniment of birthing.“
What’s in a Name
We’re not talking about being put in a hypnotic state in which you don’t remember anything afterwards, but rather putting yourself in a conscious mindset before, during and after birth.
HypnoBirthing is a program, a method, a so-called philosophy to teach you how to bring your baby into this world in the most gentle way possible. For example, in a HypnoBirthing course, you’ll learn how your body naturally functions to ease your baby’s passage. With understanding, there is less fear.
It also provides you and your partner with the knowledge, tools, techniques to plan for your ideal birth as well as courage to set boundaries with the hospital staff and make your own choices in the delivery room.
HypnoBirthing is Two-Faced
Let’s break this down even a little further. HypnoBirthing basically has 2 different sides to it: Technical and Emotional. Let me explain.
HypnoBirthing’s Technical Side
You will learn techniques and tools to teach you how to achieve a gentle birth. The three main techniques are 1) Breathing, 2) Visualization and 3) Relaxation. Each of these techniques are explained in detail during the HypnoBirthing Childbirth Course by MyGentleBorn. You will not only learn about them, you will also be able to practice them in the course and at home. Yes, there is homework, but … relaxing ‚work‘.
Ideally, pregnant couples take a course around the 21st – 25th week to give them enough time to plan their ideal birth.
HypnoBirthing’s Emotional Side
HypnoBirthing is considered a philosophy and even life-changing which is why so many women – and men – swear by it. It’s also the reason why several women – including myself – have changed career paths for the sole purpose of helping other women feel the same way about birth and life after birth.
When deciding on the HypnoBirthing method, you are making a commitment, a conscious decision to do what’s best for you, your baby and your partner during your birth journey and beyond. What you’ll learn in this class will help you deal with stressful situations in the future. You know, for those times when you really need to ‚keep calm‘.
It not only teaches you how to experience a gentle birth, but also how to be in the moment, be present, control what you can control and accept what you have no control over.
„HypnoBirthing is a philosophy to teach you how to bring your baby into this world in the most gentle way possible.“
A Few Words About MyGentleBorn
HypnoBirthing, in the traditional sense, focuses on natural childbirth with little or no doctor intervention. My focus at MyGentleBorn is on your well-being. Sometimes, a c-section or an epidural is necessary or desired and that is OK. It’s your choice how you birth!
More important is how you feel. During your childbirth course – either in individual coaching sessions or in a group course – we will dig deep to find out what’s important for you and your family and will work out a plan together that feels right.
Because Birth Matters is my motto. Not only for the baby, but also for you and your partner. I’ve had daddies tell me that after taking a HypnoBirthing course, they felt more involved than during a previous birth.
That’s how birth should be and that’s why I concentrate on helping you create the best atmosphere for you and your family during the most precious moment of your entire life. I want to help you be able to celebrate this moment by doing what makes you feel good and comfortable.
Also, I want your pregnancy to be FUN! This is the only time you have certain ‚privileges‘, the only time you feel that little kick or roll. It should be a time of a time of laughter and joy for you and your partner, so be well aware that we are going to laugh from time to time in the MyGentleBorn course. Sure, some topics are of serious nature, but I strongly believe that if you have a smile on your face, your baby in your belly will too!
Warmly,
